Relocating to Mammoth Lakes, CA -pros and cons?

I relocated for work and It's a a small town city with about 7,233 people. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What would you do? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Came here for school and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The dating scene is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from New York about 2 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are growing, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
