Been meaning to ask this. I'm a 30-year-old social worker and Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Any advice would be great.

Moved here from Austin about 12 years ago. it's not perfect but it works for me. Still getting used to public transit but Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Lakewood for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- The traffic scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Dallas it's challenging.

I'm a teacher and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is improving and there's always something going on.

I've lived in Eastside for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The nightlife scene is tough
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Springfield) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Westside area are solid. Kids love it here.
