Raising a family in Manchester -thoughts?

Longtime lurker here, With a population of 115K, Manchester is a mid-size city. Poverty rate is 7.7%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,465/month for a decent place. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 3 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.
