The good and bad of living in Manchester

Anyone else feel this way? I'm single, late 50s, and Household incomes average around $77,415 in Manchester. Median household income is $77,415, which feels about average for the area. The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Good schools
- Diverse community
- Lots of new development
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Limited cultural events
- Chain restaurants dominate
Has anyone dealt with this? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Riverside for 12 years. Moved from Boston for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Riverside schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited shopping options. Far from beaches/mountains. And school system can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.
