Moving from Indianapolis to Mandan next month

Just moved here 16 months ago and Household incomes average around $75,966 in Mandan. With a population of 24,293, Mandan is a small town. The median home value here is around $246,300, which is actually reasonable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Would love some local perspective. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Houston about 15 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is solid.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in South for 9 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is tough - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Chain restaurants dominate. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 6/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been in Uptown for 10 years. Moved from Houston for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much stable but now it's pretty good.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 6 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
