Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Used to live on the Old Town side, now on the Uptown side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

I work in engineering here and it's been a really good experience overall. The job market for my field is excellent. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 6 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Portland about 12 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for work and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The traffic is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
