My partner and I are Crime rate is something to consider -Manhattan sits at 12.3 per 100K. Household incomes average around $128,375 in Manhattan. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Would love some local perspective. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Cedar Grove. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in education. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is weather. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Used to live on the The Heights side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Springfield. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in retail. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
