Random thought, I work in hospitality and It's a a small town city with about 16,917 people. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely better than expected and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Springfield. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in engineering. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Definitely worth checking out..

I'm a social worker and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community is underrated and there's always something going on.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Uptown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
