Used to live on the Meadowbrook side, now on the Riverside side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 10 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
- The public transit scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
