Cost of living reality check -Manson

Hi all, I'm a teacher here and Median household income is $70,893, which feels about average for the area. Poverty rate is 4.3%, which is pretty low. With a population of 1,653, Manson is a small town. The median home value here is around $118,800, which is actually reasonable. You can expect to pay around $656 for rent here. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Good schools
- Diverse community

Cons:
- Limited dining options
- Far from major airports
- Chain restaurants dominate

I've lived in Highland for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- The community vibe scene is decent

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in The Heights. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in legal. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is solid in most areas.
