Born and raised here. With a population of 1,254, Mansura is a small town. You can expect to pay around $659 for rent here. Median household income is $20,938, which feels on the lower side for the area. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What would you do? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 39, moved here 15 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Oak Park and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The job market situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for young professionals. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The walkability is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The community vibe is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Used to live on the North side, now on the Springfield side. Completely different vibe. it's not perfect but it works for me.

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The public transit is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great Vietnamese places. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely better than expected and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Highland) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
