The good and bad of living in María Antonia comunidad

Been meaning to ask this. Military spouse here. Median household income is $23,083, which feels on the lower side for the area. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Am I wrong here? The food scene here is surprisingly good.

The food scene here is pretty good. Tons of great Thai places. it's not perfect but it works for me.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is underrated in most areas.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is nightlife. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Austin it's pretty good.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 47, moved here 13 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Greenfield and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The cost of living situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for couples. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Downtown) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
