Anyone regret moving to Margate?

Longtime lurker here, I relocated for work and Median household income is $60,852, which feels about average for the area. It's a a smaller city city with about 58,418 people. Household incomes average around $60,852 in Margate. The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Am I overthinking this? The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in West. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in education. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 9 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Miami about 12 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
