Been meaning to ask this. Homes are going for about $286,200 on average. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 15 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in East. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in consulting. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Dallas it's solid.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 6 years ago. The main reasons were school and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Definitely worth checking out..
