Cost of living reality check -Marina del Rey

Hello, I grew up here but left for a while. Household incomes average around $142,440 in Marina del Rey. It's a a small town city with about 8,844 people. Poverty rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. With a population of 8,844, Marina del Rey is a small town. Homes are going for about $470,600 on average. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Growing food scene
- Low taxes
- Lots of new development
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons:
- Not very walkable
- High property taxes
- Limited cultural events
Am I wrong here? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much affordable but now it's average.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Westside) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.
