Rent is about $978/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $978 for rent here. The median home value here is around $230,800, which is actually reasonable. The unemployment rate is 2.3%, which is pretty low. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.
Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Active local events
- Good airport connections
Cons:
- Hot summers
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Boring for young people
- Homelessness issues downtown
The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

The food scene here is hit or miss. Tons of great craft beer places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Bought a house here in 2022 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in The Heights for 14 years. Moved from Tampa for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Homeless population growing downtown. And community vibe can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in East. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in construction. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.
