Freelancing from Marion -experience?

I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Median household income is $44,472, which feels on the lower side for the area. Rent is about $687/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $44,472 in Marion. Crime rate is something to consider -Marion sits at 153.1 per 100K. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Thoughts? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 33, moved here 8 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Uptown and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Diverse dining options
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Can feel isolated
3. The community vibe situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for couples. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $80K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 14 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
