Anyone else feel this way? Born and raised here. Median household income is $44,472, which feels on the lower side for the area. Poverty rate is 20.5%, which is higher than I expected. The unemployment rate is 3.5%, which is pretty low. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Any advice would be great. Looking forward to hearing from you all. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

I've lived in Springfield for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights
- The nightlife scene is decent
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Summers can be brutally hot
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely challenging and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Riverside) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in East area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.
