Considering Marion vs Omaha -help me decide

Alright, Military spouse here. The unemployment rate is 4.5%, which is about average. Poverty rate is 15.9%, which is higher than I expected. Household incomes average around $45,829 in Marion. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What are your go-to spots? The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Midtown for 13 years. Moved from Miami for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
education is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Road conditions need improvement. Dating scene is rough. And school system can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Greenfield. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in legal. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The public transit is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Bought a house here in 2022 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if cultural scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Riverside. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in consulting. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Southern.

No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much manageable but now it's improving.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
