Living in Markham -the reality

Hey everyone, It's a a small town city with about 11,434 people. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. Median household income is $52,364, which feels on the lower side for the area. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Friendly people
- Diverse community
- Strong sense of community
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Limited nightlife
- High property taxes
- Boring for young people
- Far from major airports
Any advice would be great. Any help is appreciated. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Sunset. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The community vibe is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..
