Alright, The median home value here is around $99,300, which is actually reasonable. Rent is about $852/month for a decent place. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Am I overthinking this? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Springfield. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in consulting. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 56, moved here 3 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Highland and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The job market situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for retirees. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2022 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone about the same since then.
