Alright, Born and raised here. Rent is about $1,721/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $485,400 on average. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Springfield for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- The nightlife scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Winters are long and cold
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..
