Couple moving to Marlow Heights from out of state

Hello, Median household income is $58,268, which feels about average for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Marlow Heights sits at 386.5 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Anyone in a similar situation?

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Fairview area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 10 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Austin about 15 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is underrated.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The food scene is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.
