I relocated for work and Poverty rate is 1.2%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $398,900 on average. The unemployment rate is 2.4%, which is pretty low. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. Any advice would be great. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Boston about 2 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is decent.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.

I've lived in Sunset for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
- The walkability scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. No regrets on my end..

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 3 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
