With a population of 23,646, Marshall is a small town. You can expect to pay around $929 for rent here. Poverty rate is 21.8%, which is higher than I expected. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. Worth the trade-offs? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- The cultural scene scene is average
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in retail. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 4 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I've been in South for 6 years. Moved from Seattle for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited entertainment options. Bugs and humidity in summer. And food scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
