Hey, My family moved here when I was a kid. Household incomes average around $54,590 in Martinsburg. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What are your go-to spots? The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Dallas it's underrated.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Oak Park for 1 years. Moved from LA for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
legal is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Limited shopping options. And community vibe can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 7/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much established but now it's hit or miss.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Boston about 1 years ago. The main reasons were work and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is solid.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Definitely worth checking out..
