Hey everyone, I'm single, late 20s, and The median home value here is around $92,500, which is actually reasonable. Rent is about $784/month for a decent place. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Thanks for reading. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Westside. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in real estate. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Maple Ridge. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in government. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in The Heights for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- The cultural scene scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 3 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
