The good and bad of living in Martinsville

Born and raised here. Poverty rate is 16.6%, which is higher than I expected. Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. The median home value here is around $92,500, which is actually reasonable. Rent is about $784/month for a decent place. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What are your go-to spots? The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The community vibe is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
