Weekend activities in Martinsville?

Hey, Military spouse here. You can expect to pay around $784 for rent here. It's a a small town city with about 13,584 people. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Am I overthinking this? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely decent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (West) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in West area are improving. Kids love it here.
