Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 12 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 54, moved here 3 years ago from New York. I've lived in Midtown and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The nightlife situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for remote workers. average vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Uptown. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in legal. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Uptown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much pricey but now it's hit or miss.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Springfield) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 28, moved here 2 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Oak Park and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Nice parks and green spaces
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The pet-friendliness situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for families. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $80K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
