I've lived in Oak Park for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- The nightlife scene is tough

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much established but now it's average.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Winters are long and cold

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is excellent.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone down slightly since then.
