First time home buyer in Mason City

Longtime lurker here, I relocated for work and The unemployment rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 7.3%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Mason City sits at 652.4 per 100K. Homes are going for about $130,000 on average. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Pros:
- Good schools
- Low taxes
- Easy commute
- Lots of new development

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Lack of diversity
- Boring for young people
There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is excellent in most areas.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
