What surprised you most about Massillon?

Longtime lurker here, You can expect to pay around $846 for rent here. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. Poverty rate is 9.2%, which is pretty low. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Great weather
- Close to nature
- Strong sense of community
- Walkable downtown

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Limited nightlife
- Chain restaurants dominate
Would love some local perspective. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in North area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Old Town. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Italian.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
