How much do you pay for rent in Mastic?

Anyone else feel this way? Born and raised here. Rent is about $2,055/month for a decent place. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely tough and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the Pine Hills side, now on the Midtown side. Completely different vibe. it's not perfect but it works for me.

Came here for family and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The nightlife is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (North) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

I'm a contractor and I've found the quality of life is solid. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from San Francisco about 3 years ago. The main reasons were work and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is average.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.
