Alright, It's not perfect, but the community is solid. What neighborhoods would you suggest?

Moved here from Tampa about 13 years ago. it's been a really good experience overall. Still getting used to traffic but Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in South. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Came here for school and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The weather is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Riverside) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much wild but now it's improving.
