Why I chose Mathews over bigger cities
Hey folks, I'm originally from Dallas and With a population of 1,579, Mathews is a small town. Homes are going for about $218,800 on average. It's a a small town city with about 1,579 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Mathews sits at 618.2 per 100K. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.
Pros:

- Active local events
Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Cold winters
- Rising rent prices
- High property taxes
- Limited cultural events
The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.
