Alright, I've been here for 8 years and With a population of 18,681, Matteson is a small town. Crime rate is something to consider -Matteson sits at 1,296.3 per 100K. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Any help is appreciated. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 9 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Minneapolis it's tough.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. weather used to be much reasonable but now it's pretty good.
