Weekend activities in Matthews?

Been meaning to ask this. You can expect to pay around $1,670 for rent here. Household incomes average around $105,579 in Matthews. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. Any advice would be great.

Came here for school and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The healthcare is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 55, moved here 14 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Springfield and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Close to major attractions
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Can feel isolated
3. The outdoor recreation situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for remote workers. average vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**

I've been in Meadowbrook for 3 years. Moved from Phoenix for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Bugs and humidity in summer. And cultural scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
