Not sure if this has been asked before, but Born and raised here. With a population of 29,959, Matthews is a smaller city. Household incomes average around $105,579 in Matthews. Poverty rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. It's a a smaller city city with about 29,959 people. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Cons:
- Rising rent prices
- Lack of diversity
- Poor road conditions
- Limited cultural events
Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The walkability is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.
