First post here. Should I be concerned? The weather takes some getting used to.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The food scene is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for school and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The traffic is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Austin about 10 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are developing, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from San Diego about 7 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is average.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 12 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great craft beer places. I love the pace of life here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely average and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
