Rent vs buy in Mayflower Village -what makes sense?

Alright, I'm retired and With a population of 5,303, Mayflower Village is a small town. The median home value here is around $841,200, which is pretty steep. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Thanks! The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Dallas about 1 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is tough.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 4 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much growing but now it's decent.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 13 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
