Longtime lurker here, Household incomes average around $146,206 in Mayo. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Would love some local perspective. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in finance. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Seattle about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are stable, gas is underrated.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. No regrets on my end..

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in Midtown area are excellent. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a nurse, 35, moved here 5 years ago from Miami. I've lived in The Heights and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The outdoor recreation situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for young professionals. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $90K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The cost of living is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.
