Hello, Poverty rate is 14.0%, which is around average. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Has anyone dealt with this? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure
- The pet-friendliness scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Portland about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is challenging.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is decent.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've been here 15 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in East for 14 years. Moved from Phoenix for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not a lot of cultural diversity. Bugs and humidity in summer. And community vibe can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
