First post here. Poverty rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Maywood sits at 62.1 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $1,932 for rent here. It's a a small town city with about 10,042 people. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. TIA! The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much affordable but now it's improving.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely better than expected and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (North) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Houston about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Feel free to reach out with questions..
