Anyone else feel this way? Median household income is $48,044, which feels on the lower side for the area. Homes are going for about $137,500 on average. Household incomes average around $48,044 in McAlester. The unemployment rate is 4.2%, which is about average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Anyone in a similar situation? The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Lakewood for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Close to major attractions
- The walkability scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I work in hospitality here and the quality of life is solid. The job market for my field is hit or miss. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Uptown. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in marketing. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.
