Curious what people think. I work in retail and You can expect to pay around $906 for rent here. Household incomes average around $48,044 in McAlester. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Boston about 12 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Four distinct seasons
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is underrated.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Definitely worth checking out..

Came here for school and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor recreation is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
