Studio apartments in McAlmont -options?

Poverty rate is 45.6%, which is higher than I expected. Homes are going for about $215,800 on average. The median home value here is around $215,800, which is actually reasonable. Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Low crime in most areas
- Good schools
- Active local events

Cons:
- High property taxes
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Limited cultural events
- Homelessness issues downtown
- Not enough green space
What do you all think? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in South area are tough. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
