Hey everyone, My partner and I are Homes are going for about $285,800 on average. Median household income is $77,734, which feels about average for the area. You can expect to pay around $1,576 for rent here. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Should I be concerned? Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Eastside. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in marketing. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Riverside. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in tech. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 3 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Raleigh it's better than expected.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The safety is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.
