Been meaning to ask this. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely pretty good and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (The Heights) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Came here for family and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The job market is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a writer, 46, moved here 15 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in North and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Good healthcare facilities
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Property taxes are high
3. The job market situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for families. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'm a accountant and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. The community is excellent and there's always something going on.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Austin about 1 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is average.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Good luck with whatever you decide..
