Just moved to McLean, any tips?

I work in engineering and It's a a smaller city city with about 50,232 people. With a population of 50,232, McLean is a smaller city. Crime rate is something to consider -McLean sits at 130.5 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Thanks for reading. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Cedar Grove. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Westside for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- The pet-friendliness scene is improving

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Nightlife is limited

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely tough and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (The Heights) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.
